Venice Bakery

I've always been a fan of pizza, those hot slices of crispy crusted bread covered in lashings of tomato sauce, cheese and various tasty toppings. Going lactose free caused few problems for pizza. We started making our own dough (before little one got here so we had the time!) and covered it in Lactofree semi hard cheese and which ever toppings we liked. Since becoming gluten free, now almost entirely dairy free and having a small child to look after things have got a little trickier!

Thankfully Venice Bakery have come to my rescue!
There are supermarkets own brand free from pizza bases which you can buy relatively cheaply and easily. However, they lack that certain "je ne sais quoi". Now these pizza bases are a whole different ball game. You get that wonderful mouth watering anticipation as you open the packet. They are hugely fun to decorate with your favourite free from toppings and they taste great baked without any topping at all. I would recommend following the instructions carefully as I undercooked the middle and it was still a little gooey although piping hot. After all they are made with potato not wheat.

To make a great product even better they are gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, soy free, egg free and vegan! We ended up making 5 different pizzas and had the leftovers for lunch today. Even little one had some baked seasoned crust with his toppings on the side (he doesn't eat tomato)!

The bases come in packs of three 5" bases or individual 12" bases and either plain or seasoned. The store well and are just available on the website

Give them a try and spread the word, we may see more of them on our shelves.
